His Majesty King Philippe Visits COMET, a Company Specializing in Metal Waste Treatment

His Majesty the King visited our Obourg (Mons) site to learn about the systems and technologies implemented by Recupel and the COMET Group for the collection and recycling of waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE).

In terms of recycling, our country is among the best in Europe!
Let’s also try to become champions of reuse. There are still 50 million unused devices or ones that are just lying around in Belgian households’ drawers.
His Majesty began the visit with a roundtable discussion on the circular economy, followed by a presentation on the depollution of WEEE (washing machines, computers, scooters, etc.).
And as the grand finale, the Multipick robotic sorting line, a true world premiere!

Sorting line for the Recycling Industry

Sorting and recycling are important processes that help to conserve resources and reduce waste. This is often done to prepare materials for recycling or disposal.

REVERSE METALLURGY | A cooperative R&D project supported by regional and european founds

As part of the project Reverse Metallurgy, Cilyx, in collaboration with Comet Treatment and the University of Liège, develops an intelligent high throughput sorting system for characterization of metallic automotive shredder residues for recycling purposes .

This solution is equiped with various sensors:

XRT (X-Ray Transmission) for measuring the density of the material.
3D to measure the shape parameters of the crushed objects.
Hyperspectral to measure its reflectance spectrum.

This solution allow a real-time high-speed classification of the different metallic objects with help of multiple robots used in parallel.
